Welcome to Sand Point Living Interiors

A New Leaf

A New Leaf - Sand Point Living Interiors quietly celebrates new ownership.

When Mary Peaks recently took ownership of Sand Point Living Interiors, Inc., her customers probably didn’t even realize it had happened—which is exactly what Peaks wanted. “It’s business as usual for us,” says Peaks. “I bought the business in such a way that we didn’t have to change anything. I wanted no disruptions for our customers.”

No stranger to the business, Peaks has served as general manager of the interior landscaping company since it began operating as an independent spinoff of Sand Point Greenhouse in 1997. Before that, she worked as a florist at Sand Point, where she learned every aspect of the business. “It’s my passion,” Peaks says simply.

Interior landscaping involves more than using greenery to make a commercial or residential space look nice, says Peaks; plants bring real value. They not only add dimension and enhance aesthetics, they also contribute to a healthier, more productive workplace. “Plants enrich the air quality,” explains Peaks. “Production goes up, absenteeism goes down and people just have a lighter mood.”

Indeed, a clean air study conducted by NASA identified several types of common indoor plants that counter the effects of airborne toxins such as ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene and xylene. Because most people spend the bulk of their time indoors, maintaining a high standard of air quality takes on particular importance. Doing it in a way that people find aesthetically pleasing adds to its value.

That’s why Peaks and her team at Sand Point Living Interiors take so much pride in their work. Each time they go into a home or a business to install or maintain plants, they know they make it a brighter, healthier place. Their customers know it, too. “Everyone is so friendly,” says Peaks. “They appreciate the plants and what they do for their offices and homes.”

The Sand Point Living Interiors team consists of twelve technicians who specialize in various aspects of interior landscaping, from décor to plant maintenance. They have designed and completed installations that range from private homes to Parkview Regional Medical Center. No two projects are alike, and most change seasonally.

It takes skill to do the job right, emphasizes Peaks. “It’s not just going in and dusting the plants and putting a little water on,” she says. “There’s a lot more elbow grease that goes into it. It takes all of us working together.”

Of course, not all spaces can accommodate living plants, so Sand Point Living Interiors also provides replica plants. Internal environmental elements such as lighting and accessibility, as well as client preference, determine how Peaks and her team will adorn an area.

No matter what type of materials the Sand Point Living Interiors team uses, each new client installation starts the same way: with a discussion. “We really want to get to know our customers,” says Peaks. “We want to make sure we understand their needs and expectations so we can deliver them the very best value for their budget.”

The techs make weekly or biweekly visits to clients to monitor soil moisture and fertilize any tropical plants. All their plants are guaranteed, meaning that Sand Point Living Interiors will replace a damaged or unhealthy plant to ensure the area remains aesthetically pleasing.

While Peaks remains committed to conducting business as usual under her ownership, she does have aspirations for growth. Her first goal is to expand the company’s leasing programs for guaranteed interior maintenance and holiday décor, which allow customers to enhance their interior spaces and create an inviting entrance for their associates and employees.

Sand Point Living Interiors may have turned over a new leaf, but its roots remain the same: delivering exceptional customer experience through the benefits of interior landscaping. Peaks wants the community to remember, “We’re a locally owned business that’s been committed to northeast Indiana for many years. We will continue to strive to provide our clients with exceptional services."
